Leverage the Strength of Women in Peace Building and Promote Gender Sensitivity

Bay Women Development Organization implemented a project for Strengthening Women in Peace Building and Promote Gender Sensitivity in the National Program on Disengaged Combatants in Baidoa town supported by IOM. The pilot project had 50 women Beneficiaries in the first slot who were selected from the ten villages of Baidoa districts with the help of women leaders since they knew those women who are formerly associated with Al-Shabaab.

Bay women Development accommodated them and provided them with various vocational skills such as Henna Drawing, tie & die. They were also given numeracy and literacy, life skills careers, business skills, religious counseling, and financial literacy so they are able to make income generation that will support their family.

After six months of graduation, they were given start-up grants to start their proposed businesses. Most of those women after being invested in a business with knowledge and skills started their intended small business and up to date, they are running businesses in Baidoa town covering up their lives.
