CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate change adaptation

Climate change is a long-term change in the average weather patterns that have come to define Earth’s local, regional and global climates. These changes have a broad range of observed effects that are synonymous with the term. Somalia is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to climate change.  But while Somalia’s greenhouse gas emissions are extremely low, its population suffers some of the worst consequences of the climate crisis. Climate conditions are forcing communities to migrate, and the scarcity of resources is driving conflict over water, land and food.

BWDO provides educational awareness about climate change and the environment in Somalia at large. It also includes encouraging farmers to grow resilient food crops and herders to use breeding practices that require less water. Communities are also encouraged to have contingency plans and receive training to monitor climate risks in their area to react more efficiently, and earlier, to natural hazards.
